The Location

Prepare to be amazed by majestic Scoresbysund, Greenland, the largest ice fiord in the world, a region defined by some of the world’s largest and fastest moving glaciers, sometimes called ‘iceberg factories’. There’s magnificent landscape; towering mountains, magnificent glaciers calving massive icebergs, remote islands. There’s fascinating culture; one active Inuit village (Itoquortormitt) and several ancient Thule ruins. There’s vibrant wildlife; in order of guaranteed to see to might get lucky enough to see – a multitude of seabirds, seals, whales, musk ox, fox, walrus, and polar bears. Now imagine all of this under northern lights. (Landscape will be our focus but we’ll definitely experience wildlife and culture along the way.)

Your Adventure

Itinerary – 11 Days / 10 Nights

Day 0 – Reykjavik, Iceland (optional)

Your adventure begins with an overnight stay in thoroughly-modern Reykjavík, the world’s northernmost capital city. It’s likely that you’ll want to experience epic Iceland for more than one day before your departure.

For passengers coming from USA we advise 1 night in RKV on arrival and 2 nights in RKV on departure.

For passengers coming from EUROPE we advise 2 nights in RKV on arrival and 2 nights in RKV on departure.

These extra nights are not required but we highly recommend that you arrive early. There’s only one charter flight to Greenland; you don’t want to miss it. If you miss the special charter flight to Constable Pynt, you’ll miss the whole voyage. And, plan to return at least a day after landing in Reykjavik. While it’s not typical, weather could delay your departure.

Day 1 – Embarkation Day / Iceland to Greenland

You’ll fly from Reykjavík to Constable Pynt, Greenland for embarkation at 16:00 hours.

Day 2 – 10 – Scoresbysund Fiord System

You’ll sail deep into Scoresbysund and find yourself mesmerized by the largest, longest, and – some say – most beautiful fjord system in the world. One of the most active fiord systems in the world, more than six fiords (Nordvestfiord, Ofiord, Rypefiord, Rodefiord, Fonfiord Gasefiord) feed the vast Scoresbysund that leads to the open oceans of the North Atlantic. The ice conditions are stellar. Huge tabular icebergs that have broken off these many glaciers perpetually dot the skyline as they weave in and out of the scattered islands. Surrounded by majestic peaks, they’re magnificent in any light, but especially when there’s rich color in the sky at sunrise and sunset; the reflected light from the red cliffs of Rodefiord at dawn is stunning. When there are clear skies, you’ll have an opportunity to see the amazing northern lights.

Because the sailboat and its two Zodiacs are dedicated to our group we’ll be able to go where we want, when we want, and stay as long as we’d like – but you may never want to leave.

During your voyage, you’ll visit the town of Itoqqortoormitt (East Greenland’s most northerly community) and have an opportunity to see and purchase unique handicrafts from the local Inuit artisan community.

Day 11 – Disembarkation Day/ Greenland to Iceland

You’ll disembark at Constable Pynt at 09:00 for your flight back to Reyjavik.

Accommodation and food for this night are not included.

Again, it’s recommended that you plan to spend an extra night or two before departing, in case there are flight delays from Greenland.

Come Early / Stay Late

Before and/or after your voyage, plan a little extra time to see the epic landscapes of Iceland. We’ve been there many times and we’ve got lots of recommendations for you!

Your Sailboat

The Rembrandt Van Rijn is a beautiful three-masted 56m/168ft sailboat with excellent deck access, which is wonderful for photography. (The boat makes a wonderful photographic subject.)

Its 16 cabins can hold a total of 33 passengers, but we’ve limited the number of participants to 18. Many participants will have single cabins, but you can guarantee you’ll have one by paying the upgrade fee.

The 12 person staff of the Rembrandt include 9 sailors, 2 guides, and 1 cook.

2 Zodiacs will provide us with additional flexibility to weave our way through the ice fields and get as close as we can, as long as it’s safe to do so. (Yes, you’ll touch many icebergs.)

This is not a voyage on a cruise ship – it’s a much more personal adventure.

Please note you will need to climb the ship’s ladder to access Zodiacs and be able to walk moderate distances during shore excursions.

Your Workshop

This is more than a photo tour, this is a workshop! You’ll experience world-class locations and world-class guidance. This is a unique opportunity (for a few people – a 1 to 10 participant/leader ratio) to visit one of the most amazing places on this planet led by world-renowned photographers – John Paul Caponigro and Seth Resnick – who will help you strengthen your creativity and technique. Creativity, composition, storytelling, exposure, workflow, and post-processing are among the topics presented. We customize our sessions based on the interests of our participants.

We’ll work closely with you to help you make the most of the adventure and get the best results possible. You’ll benefit tremendously from our advice, guidance, seminars, reviews, and one-on-one attention – plus the camaraderie of like-minded talented participants. You’ll find seeing your fellow participants’ images inspiring!
